Outcomes

Students who complete the learning community called “Space on Earth” will have the ability to:

• read and understand a body of text containing quantitative information

• analyze and explain the meaning of that text

• form an opinion on an issue contained in the text and support their opinion with qualitative and quantitative reasoning

• write a conclusion that summarizes their position on the issue contained in the text.

• use writing and math as a tool to think critically in the context of environmental issues

• write a well documented research paper that answers a meaningful question and is supported by qualitative and quantitative reasoning

• use scientific practice and theory to engage in discourse (discussion and interpretation) around global issues.

• use writing and mathematics as a tool to process, analyze, synthesize, reflect, and explain

• Use Polya’s four step process to solve environmental problems with confidence and enthusiasm
